This is a grant funded position through June 30, 2029Renewal is on an annual basis, however it is not guaranteed.

Under direction of the Los Angeles Regional Consortium (LARC) Chair/Assistant Vice President and in support of the LARC 19 colleges, the Job Developer will develop, locate and actively refer students to employment positions across Los Angeles county.



EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:


  1. Identifies and locates current and prospective job openings for District students and, depending on assignment, for students at partnering community colleges in the region.
  2. May negotiate contracts, develop jobs, and supervise placements. Maintains records of student employment outcomes.
  3. Participates in placement, and follow-up of students in part-time and full-time employment.
  4. Contacts employers to ensure that they are knowledgeable about District programs and services and, depending on assignment, the programs, and services of partnering regional community colleges.
  5. Maintains a current listing of available job opportunities and promotes openings to students via email campaigns, social media, and the District's online job board.
  6. Maintains a close effective working relationship with District faculty, work study coordinator, and appropriate community resource personnel; depending on assignment, may also collaborate with faculty and personnel at partnering community colleges.
  7. Collects employment data and prepares required reports in a timely manner.
  8. Coordinates the annual job fair and other recruitment events.
  9. Communicates the needs of employers to students and appropriate college personnel.
  10. Develops and distributes targeted newsletters to effectively communicate job opportunities to students and relevant college personnel.
  11. Performs related duties as assigned.





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of college education in any field
  • Three years of experience in a responsible position with workforce, vocational education, employment/personnel services, or other related programs.
    OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Knowledge of employment development methods, labor market trends, and employer outreach strategies in a regional or urban workforce environment.

SKILLS:
  • Skill in maintaining accurate records, preparing program reports, and tracking student employment outcomes using digital tools and databases.
  • Proficient in using online job boards, social media platforms, and email marketing tools to promote employment opportunities to students.


ABILITIES:

  • Ability to develop and sustain productive working relationships with employers, college staff, faculty, and community agency representatives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate program services, student qualifications, and employment opportunities to diverse employer and student audiences, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate recruitment events, job fairs, and employer engagement activities.
  • Demonstrated experience working with communities who have been traditionally underserved by higher education and experience in the pedagogy reflecting intersections of race, culture, class, ethnic, and queer communities.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
  • This is primarily a sedentary office classification, however; standing and walking between work areas may be required.
  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.
  • Positions in this classification may occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information.
  • Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIORNMENT:

  • Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, and controlled temperature conditions.
  • Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
